Fitted Sheet Size for a 180x200 Mattress: UAE Guide

You’ve just bought a 180×200 mattress, maybe for a new bedroom set, maybe as a replacement, and now you’re staring at a wall of fitted sheets online. They all carry labels such as “King,” “Super King,” or simply “180×200,” but you’re not sure which one will actually fit. This mix-up happens more often than you might expect, and it usually isn’t about the length or width. It’s about depth. Finding the right fitted sheet for 180×200 mattress dimensions becomes much easier once you know the mattress depth as well as its length and width.

Understanding 180×200 Mattress Sizing in the UAE

In the UAE, retailers generally sell and market a 180×200 cm mattress as a King size. However, you’ll occasionally see “Standard King” on labels to distinguish it from the larger Super King sizes, such as 200×200 or 200×210 cm. If you’ve measured your mattress at 180 cm wide by 200 cm long, you’re in King territory. That’s the label you should search for when shopping for sheets, protectors, or duvet covers.

That said, width and length only tell half the story. Two fitted sheets can both carry a “King 180×200” label and still fit completely differently on your bed. The missing piece is depth, and it’s the detail almost nobody checks until the sheet starts slipping off.

The Depth Measurement Everyone Forgets

Fitted sheets don’t just match your mattress’s length and width. Manufacturers also design them with a specific pocket depth to accommodate the full height of your mattress, from the base to the top of the sleeping surface.

Here’s where it gets tricky: mattress depth varies more than most shoppers assume. A basic foam mattress might measure around 20-25 cm deep, while a pocket-spring or hybrid mattress with a plush pillow-top can easily reach 30-35 cm or more. If you’ve added a mattress topper or mattress protector, you also need to include that extra thickness in your measurement.

A standard fitted sheet typically works with mattresses up to roughly 25-30 cm deep. If your mattress exceeds that range, a standard-depth sheet will stretch tightly at the corners, pop off during the night, or refuse to tuck underneath properly. This explains why a “correctly sized” fitted sheet can still fail to fit: the length and width match, but the depth doesn’t.

Before you buy, take a soft tape measure and measure from the base of the mattress to the highest point of the sleeping surface, including any topper. This mattress depth fitted sheet measurement helps you choose a sheet with enough pocket depth to stay securely in place. That single number tells you far more than the “King” label ever will.

How to Choose the Right Fitted Sheet Fit

Once you know your true depth, choosing a fitted sheet for 180×200 mattress dimensions becomes straightforward.

Under 25 cm depth: A standard-fit fitted sheet should work comfortably.
25-35 cm depth: Look for sheets that offer a “deep pocket” or “extra deep fitted sheet” design.
Above 35 cm, or when using a topper: Choose the deepest pocket option available. Ideally, look for reinforced elastic that runs all the way around the sheet rather than elastic only at the corners. All-around elastic provides a more secure fit on thicker mattresses.
Fabric matters too: Cotton percale sheets feel crisp and breathe well, which suits Dubai’s warmer months. Sateen weaves feel softer and slightly heavier. Both fabrics work with deep-pocket designs, so choose based on comfort and feel rather than fit.

If you’re shopping online, don’t rely on the size label alone. Check the product description for the pocket depth in centimetres, and when in doubt, choose a slightly deeper pocket rather than a shallower one. A deeper-pocket sheet can still sit neatly on a shallower mattress, but a shallow-pocket sheet won’t stretch enough to fit a deeper mattress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a fitted sheet for 180×200 mattress the same as a King size sheet in the UAE? Yes. A 180×200 cm mattress generally falls under the standard King size category in the UAE. However, always check the sheet’s exact dimensions and pocket depth before buying.

What’s a “deep pocket” fitted sheet? A deep-pocket fitted sheet has extra fabric in the corner pockets. Manufacturers typically design these sheets to fit mattresses from around 30 cm up to 40+ cm deep, including mattresses with toppers.

How do I know my mattress depth without a topper? Measure straight up from the mattress base to the highest point of the sleeping surface. Take the measurement at the centre rather than the edge because the edges can compress slightly.

Can I use a flat sheet instead if my fitted sheet won’t fit? You can use one as a short-term solution, but flat sheets shift and bunch more easily during the night than properly fitted sheets. Choosing the correct fitted sheet offers a more secure long-term solution.

Does adding a mattress protector change what size sheet I need? Yes. Even a thin protector can add a centimetre or two to the mattress height. That extra thickness matters when your mattress already sits close to the sheet’s maximum pocket depth.
